Povidone iodine is a loose complex formed by polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and iodine, belonging to iodophor disinfectants.It appears as a yellowish-brown to reddish-brown amorphous hygroscopic powder with a slight odor.Its aqueous solution is acidic, characterized by low toxicity, low irritation, light staining and easy elution, and its stability is superior to that of traditional tincture of iodine.

Uses

When heated, it decomposes, forming toxic fumes of nitrogen oxides and iodine. The solution is a weak acid.
